Comparative Effects of Training with Resistance Band and Dumbbell on Sprint Performance in Trained Male Track and Field Athletes
The study compared resistance band training (RBT) with conventional resistance training using dumbbells (CRT) on sprint performance in trained male athletes. Sixty athletes were randomly assigned to the RBT group (n = 20), CRT group (n = 20), and control group (n = 20). Training groups performed supervised sessions twice weekly for 8 weeks. Sprint performance was assessed using 30-m flying and 60-m sprint tests pre- and post-intervention. Both RBT and CRT significantly improved 30-m and 60-m sprint performance relative to the control group (p < 0.05). RBT demonstrated greater percentage improvements than CRT in 30-m sprint time (−5.8% vs −3.9%) and 60-m sprint time (−4.9% vs −2.6%). Between-group ANOVA revealed significant group × time interactions for both sprint measures (p < 0.01). Eight weeks of training intervention improved sprint performance in trained male athletes, with RBT showing greater gains. RBT offers a practical and efficient method to enhance linear sprint speed.
